ETCHINGS

Story behind Birth a la New Guinea and the US (bottom left)

I was attending Brandeis University when I did this piece in an art class on etching. My sister-in-law was pregnant and I was fascinated by birth. I spent several sessions drawing myself in front of the full length mirror at my college friend Roberta’s dorm room. At the same time, I was taking a class on “Primitive” Art which I loved. I came across a picture of a New Guinean sculpture of a woman giving birth so I incorporated the image at the bottom of my work.
